Welcome

Tripartite Working Group of the National Indigenous Court Worker Program

This site is open to the public and free; however, the information on this site is only part of a multifaceted training process that Indigenous Courtworkers might complete as part of their training. Review of this site does not certify the user to act in the capacity of an Indigenous Courtworker or act as representation of Indigenous Offenders or write Gladue Reports. For further information please read the ‘terms of use’.

This curriculum is developed to instruct Indigenous Courtworkers on how to integrate Gladue Principles when speaking to sentence for an Indigenous offender.

It is important to note: Throughout this training you will see both “Aboriginal” and “Indigenous'' used in the text. It should be noted that while “Aboriginal” is used in the legal context, “Indigenous”  is used for all people who identify as having Indigenous descent in Canada, on or off reserve, including First Nations, Inuit, and Metis.

Thank you to the Indigenous Courtworkers across the country who developed this curriculum in 2016. As the information related to Gladue principles is constantly evolving, we welcome any feedback related to this site.
